Vineyard
The 18 hectares of vines (8 owned - 10 leased) worked by the Maison Rouge team are located in central Valais, between Sierre and Leytron. This geographical spread offers a variety of geological profiles and microclimates.
Each grape variety grown by the viticultural team benefits from ideal soil and climatic conditions. Païen, Arvine, Johannisberg, Humagne Blanc, Cornalin, Humagne Rouge and Pinot Noir have all been planted in the Sierre region. Marsanne blanche and Tempranillo were planted in the Sédun vineyards. Johannisberg, Arvine, Païen, Merlot and Syrah flourish in the Chamoson vineyards. Conthey is home to an estate of Petite Arvine, Fendant and Merlot, while Humagne rouge and Humagne blanc benefit from the Leytron terroir.
Since the company was founded, the team has been working to modernise the vineyards. All the plots are now cultivated on wires, allowing a small amount of mechanisation, which is very useful in terms of profitability and efficiency. Maison Rouge is committed to producing wines that respect nature. The entire estate is cultivated organically, and from 2021 it will be undergoing organic conversion. The entire estate is cultivated according to biodynamic principles.
To look after this precious wine heritage, the company secured the services of a skilled professional at the end of 2016 in the person of Georges Emery, the new technical director of the Maison Rouge vineyard.
